Mama
Mama Streetwear – sexy, sassy and fun.
Men used to rule the playground named Urban Fashion. However, this situation is rapidly changing. Women-owned labels are taking control of the industry and there is no stopping them. Mama is one of the leading female-based labels in urban fashion today. Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee is the founder and creative director of Mama. Her strong personality and one of a kind background (Gabriella used to be a lawyer) made Mama a success.
Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee is not only the woman behind Mama, she is also the co-founder and Editor-In-Chief of M.I.S.S. (a premier women’s online lifestyle magazine covering fashion, art, beauty, music and design). With such a great impact on the fashion world, you would expect Gabriella to have serious training and a sinuous history in the glamorous world of fashion. However, this is not the case. Gabriella is an adventurous spirit who graduated law school and then decided to become a law professor. Yet, the fate and her childhood dream led her on very different paths.
Gabriella’s grandmother was a sample sewer for Oscar De La Renta, Bob Mackie and Bill Blass. She taught Gabriella how to sew and thus started her obsession for fashion. After graduating from law school, Gabriella met a graphic designer. Together, in 2000, the two women boldly launched a girl tee line named Cybelle. The brand was successful, but Gabriella was determined to design clothes her own way. So, she started afresh Mama in 2004.
The name of the brand was a sudden strike of inspiration. Gabriella tells the story with a smile. “It was kind of just like a fluke, like my husband, it was one of his little nicknames for me, like, Hey Mama, and I wanted something that was easy to remember, that was cute, fun, sassy, just kind of universal for women, so I thought that it was very fitting.”
Now, Mama is an internationally acclaimed women’s contemporary line. The brand is organically growing in many directions and one can say Mama is today much more than a clothing line. Mama has worked with footwear, apparel and fashion related companies such as Adidas, New Era Cap, Montana Colors, Juicy Cosmetics and Bijules NYC on product design and brand development. Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee’s fashion creations were featured in All Gone: The Finest of Street Culture 2007, 200% Cotton, Protect T-Shirts, Sneaker Freaker, Sportswear International, Elle Girl Magazine, XLR8R, Vapors, Mass Appeal, The Face, Streetwear Today, YM, Vapors, Staf, Beautiful/Decay, BPM and Missbehave Magazine.

Mama style is all about braking rules and launching unique clothing lines. Gabriella clearly states this. “Part of my mission is creating a new definition of what’s sexy, it’s more about keeping your clothes on, and more about cleverness and wit, or just leaving something to the imagination.”
