Two rap giants, Jay-Z and Kanye West, have joined forces to create an album that has been this year’s most hotly awaited collaboration. Watch the Throne was released two days ago and insiders are predicting that the album will sell between 400,000 and 500,000 copies in its first week. Indeed, seconds after (if not a few minutes before) the album was released on iTunes, it immediately went to Number one in 23 countries! [Read our other article about Throne]
The Internet, particularly Twitter, was besieged with fans fanatically extolling the album in 45 characters or less. Critics as well mostly responded positively and gave stellar reviews of this newest collaborative effort. Produced by Roc-A-Fella Records, Roc Nation, and Def Jam Recordings, recordings for this effort began last November. H•A•M was released in January and the second single, “Otis”, followed suit on July 20th.
The two dapper rappers will be promoting the album with a concert tour that will begin in October and extend into December. Opposites attract and often pay off quite well. Brooklyn-born Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, is a quiet iconic figure, while Kanye West courts controversy at every turn. Together, they are golden dynamite when it comes to the fans. Despite Kanye’s outspoken flamboyance and love of being in the public eye, his talent shines brightly, as evidenced by his meteoric rise from hip-hop beat-maker to worldwide hit-maker.
The album is already breaking records. That’s what happens when two winners come together in the same artistic effort.
