The SoJones Guide to Men’s Shoes

The SoJones Guide to Men's Shoes

We hope that by now every man out there realizes the importance of shoes. While shoes serve an obvious purpose–protecting your feet–they’re also one of the most important accessories that you can possess.

Believe it or not, people can tell a lot about a man by his shoes. If the shoes are clean, polished, and complete your ensemble, people realize that they’re dealing with a man that not only knows how to dress properly, he also pays attention to the small details.

Shoes need to be comfortable and fit properly so that they can provide long-term health benefits for your feet, knees, and back. After all, shoes are the foundation that a man stands on. But, you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort.

There are plenty of fashionable options for men’s shoes. You just need to wear them with the right outfit for the right occasion. And, make sure that you spend the extra cash for a decent pair of shoes. Finally, take care of your investment. People will notice immediately if you’re wearing a pair of cheap or scuffed-up shoes, which will ruin the rest of your look.

With all that in mind, here’s The SoJones Guide to Men’s Shoes.

Athletic Shoes

Running shoes, tennis shoes, and basketball shoes are all examples of athletic shoes. These were obviously produced for specific athletic events, but have since become one of the most common shoes spotted on men’s feet. While they are comfortable, and fun for collectors of Jordans, they aren’t so compatible for much outside of casual and athletic settings.

Since sneakers come in so many different styles and colors, they can almost go with every situation and outfit. Whether if it’s at the gym or going to a club on Friday night, sneakers are a perfect pair of shoes. For example, the classic Chuck Taylors can be worn with a suit, or just for walking down the street on a Saturday afternoon in your favorite pair of jeans.

Moccasins have been around for a long time, and they’re one of the most casual shoes besides sneakers. These slip-on shoes should be leather or suede and can be worn with a suit or a pair of jeans. Suede moccasins are one of the few dress shoes that can be worn with shorts and a polo.

The most basic dress shoes for men are the oxfords. These are shoes that are lace-up and don’t rise above the ankles. But, a pair of oxfords called White Bucks can add a lot of flash to your outfit. Made of white buckskin, these shoes are more commonly worn during the summer months. However, they can also be worn in the spring and early autumn with a lightweight suit or jeans.

Wing Tips

Wingtips are just a variation of an oxford. When viewed from above, this toe-cap style has a “W” shape and looks similar to a bird with extended wings, hence the name “wingtips.” These shoes are recommended for less formal events and look good with casual trousers, such as corduroys or Dockers.

Ankle Boots

Slim, ankle-length boots go perfect with dressy and casual clothes, such as a pair of dark-colored designer jeans, a pair of dress trousers or a casual suit. With so many colors and variations, you can easily find a pair of ankle boots for every occasion throughout the year.

Desert Boots

Desert boots were inspired by the crepe-soled boots worn by British officers in World War II, and have since become a classic. These ankle-length boots look great with jeans, khakis, or dress pants and give-off a classy and rugged look.

Loafers are similar to a moccasin on top, but have a wide and flat heel and come in a variety of colors and styles, such as pairs with tassels or the classic penny loafer. Loafers should be worn for more casual and semi-formal events, although they are acceptable for business casual attire as well. Loafers also look great with jeans for a night out clubbing.

Brogues are similar to oxfords, except that they’re less formal and have visible seams and patterns. These iconic shoes will never go out of style, and a man can never go wrong with a decent pair of brogues. The numerous styles and colors make brogues a staple in every man’s closet and can be worn with business and casual attire.
