The battle for best (or at least most uniquely) dressed is getting serious, with celebs donning literal breastplates for the red carpet. While you don’t always think of glamour when you see a piece of armor, these dresses definitely put war gear in a whole new fashionable light!

Within a day of each other last week, two breastplate looks hit two high-profile events, worn by two very stylish ladies – but they’re not the only ones. Other celebs have also been sporting their own armor-inspired ensembles in recent months, and we have to admit the trend is growing on us. Scroll to see.

Olivia Wilde And Sydney Sweeney

At the Los Angeles premiere of Women Talking last Thursday, November 17, Olivia Wilde hit the carpet wearing a long-sleeve black Gabriela Hearst gown adorned with a gold breastplate made from molded leather. There was an artsy feel to the whole look, especially with the free-form edges of the “armor.”

The previous evening, Sydney Sweeney was in London as one of the honorees at the 2022 GQ Men of the Year Awards. For the occasion, she chose a black cutout gown paired with a silver bra plate top, both by LaQuan Smith. Now that’s a super-sexy way to rock the trend!

Kendall Jenner And Julia Fox

In September, Kendall Jenner showed us a subtler way to wear the breastplate look with this strapless black Schiaparelli top, which featured gold cups.

And in June, Julia Fox took to Instagram to flaunt this molded leather top by New York brand Seks.

Zendaya And Gwyneth Paltrow

Now if you follow red carpet fashion obsessively, you’d know that one of the most iconic breastplate looks came from Zendaya at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards. Her head-turning outfit consisted of a lacquered fuchsia breastplate by Tom Ford paired with a matching maxi skirt.

And that wasn’t the only time the Euphoria star rocked the armored look. At the 2021 Women in Film Honors, she sported a gray Loewe dress embellished with a gold chestplate.

Gwyneth Paltrow also wore the fuchsia Tom Ford outfit for the February 2020 cover of Harper’s Bazaar.

Lorde And Bjork

Zendaya’s Loewe dress had a multi-pastel version which Lorde wore to W Magazine's Originals Dinner in New York in October 2021 (swipe for more pics).

And finally, Bjork chose a Loewe dress as well – a red number with long sleeves and a tonal breastplate – when she attended the premiere of The Northman in April this year.
