When Scarlett Johansson talks skin, we listen. After all, she’s a Hollywood superstar with decades of experience in glam, AND she’s the founder of award-winning beauty brand, The Outset.

The 37-year-old Marvel actress went on the brand’s Instagram recently to talk about skin cycling (a TikTok trend that, as it turns out, is actually good for you) and how The Outset can be incorporated into the routine. She happens to be a believer in skin cycling because her acne problem (yes, she’s just like us) means she resorts to aggressive treatments sometimes and then has to rotate those with rest days.

'Problem Skin'

Scarlett may look like she never has a bad skin day, but she reveals in her video that she does have her acne moments. “I had problem skin when I was younger,” she says. “I had acne and it was just covered up by a lot of makeup, and it probably made my acne worse. And I used to layer different acids and exfoliating peels and acne treatments just all at once to get rid of it as fast as possible.”

Importance Of Skin Cycling

Later, the Oscar-nominated star learned that she also needed to give her skin some respite from those strong ingredients.

“When I streamlined my routine – just cleansing, prepping, moisturizing my skin – I realized how important it was to add in the breaks between those more aggressive treatments to just allow my skin barrier to recover,” she says in the video.

Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum On Recovery Nights

On those nights when she’s giving her skin a break from the acids, peels, and other active ingredients, there’s one product that she reaches for: The Outset’s Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum.

“I like to use our Prep Serum on my recovery nights just to add back that hydration and firmness without irritating my skin,” she explains. “It’s the perfect treatment to incorporate when you’re skin cycling so, it’s just gentle and nourishing, exactly what you need.”

Support A Cause With The Limited-Edition Prep Serum

A 2022 Allure Best of Beauty winner, Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum not only hydrates and firms but also promises to brighten skin – “ALL in one step.” Plus, the brand has collaborated with Reproductive Justice Collective SisterSong on a limited-edition Prep Serum (look for the green box), all proceeds of which “will fight for reproductive freedom and support those affected by the reversal of Roe V. Wade.” It retails for $46 on The Outset’s website.
