Junior Drake (or JD) is all about handbags who appeal to women from all walks of life. The bag line exudes an aura of confidence, distinction, and edge.
As Alyssa Johnson, JD’s Director of Design, puts it, “The woman who carries Junior Drake is confident, sophisticated, and fashion-forward! She has a lot going on in her life, and carries her favorite Junior Drake bag wherever she goes.”
Junior Drake was inspired by Patsy Brown – who took the screen name Junior Drake when she was a struggling actress. She was known not only for her excellent theatrical talents but also of her contributions to the feminine cause. She has helped many women realize their potential and unlock their full capacities.
Seeking to immortalize the legacy of Junior Drake, the label’s design team maintains its reputation of creating new designs which offer functionality, quality, and a chic fashion sense – without the unreachable tag price. After all, a Junior Drake bag rises above the rest because of the quality craftsmanship, detailed hardware, hand-crated flourishes, and soft Italian leather make.
Johnson explains in her AOLstyleblog.com interview, “Several of our customers — as well as our competitors! — have told us that we have the softest, most lightweight bags.” She adds, “Another advantage is that we are able to provide a high quality product at a lower price than the rest of our competition.”
Junior Drake’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection includes Ruffled bags Tabitha, Sarina and Regina; Twisted Seam bags Bianca, Angela, and Allie; Giselle Bags Tyra, Heidi, and Mila; Utility Bags Nora, Candice, and Courtney; and Crochet Bags Farrah, Elena, and Joslyn; and the famous Phoebe bag.
Junior Drake has also launched a sub-line called Love JD. This line is unique in its own sense because it has a web show (which is about the lives of women running a LA-based bag company) to promote the brand. In the show, each character has its own flavor, and their personalities are said to inspire each handbag in the collection. Currently, Love JD handbags range from $120-$200.
“These girls have the ability to blow the lid off of issues that many women are reticent to discuss,” said Dennis Brown, son of Patsy Brown, in an interview with www.allbusiness.com. “We want the ‘Love JD’ girls to become a voice that the viewer can depend on,” he added.
Junior Drake’s fans include singer Beyonce, model and talk show host Tyra Banks, the OC star Mischa Barton, Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl, and sexy star Carmen Electra. Junior Drake handbags have also managed to capture the attention of the editors of several fashion glossies such as Elle, In Style, Teen People, Shop, Lucky, OK!, WSA Today, Lucky, Island Life, Item, Story, and Fushion. It has also graced fashion webpages such as In Style and Cafe Globe.
Junior Drake merchandise are available at Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, and Anthropologie stores all over the nation, and in select stores in Japan and Australia.
Toting Junior Drake is more than just fashion statement – after all, it’s all about the girl, girl!
