Famous Stars and Straps is an American clothing brand by music artist Travis Barker of blink-182. It started in the year 1999 in Ontario, California and has gained a huge following ever since.
The punk rock drummer is a respected musician in the rock as well as in the hip-hop world. Aside from of being a member of blink-182 some of his musical accomplishments include playing for +44, The Aquabats, Box Car Racer, Transplants and Expensive Taste. In 2005 he starred in a reality show by MTV titled “Meet the Barkers” which gave the public a sneak peak into his life with former wife and beauty queen Shanna Moakler.
His success isn’t limited to paying the drums and performing. Aside from his clothing house, he also established LaSalle Records and Wahoo’s Fish Tacos.
The clothing line infuses a unique punk rock design esthetic. The Famous Stars and Straps product line includes shirts, pants, jackets, bikinis and accessories such as studded belts, bandanas that personify the punk rock lifestyle. However, their specific style has not stopped the brand to capture the attention outside that world. Over the years its clothing has gained much popularity within the hip-hop community as many hip-hop artists like Paul Wall and Lil’ Scrappy began wearing Barker’s stuff.
Soon celebrities like Fergie Ferguson and Brooke Burke began to grace magazine covers with Famous Stars and Straps clothing. In 2008, celebutant reality-star Kim Kardashian and Aubrey O’day of Danity Kane ran a series of sexy campaigns for the label. Other celebrities regularly seen wearing FSAS include: B-Real of Cypress Hill, Sonic Syndicate, Trav Hewat, Tim Armstrong, Rob Aston, Mark Hoppus, Roger Argenis, Craig Fairbaugh, Andrew Hill, Tris Penkal of .DE.$T, Tom DeLonge, DJ Premier, Paul Wall, Bryan Williams (Birdman), Brad Uhlman, Steve Jocz of Sum 41, and Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold.
The brand is also best known for its squad of amazing skateboarders, BMX, and motorcycle stunt teams. Among them is called The Wild Ones, a group of tagging skateboarders that have been responsible for helping the brand grow in popularity.
To reach a wider market, Travis Barker expanded into different clothing lines with different styles and statements. Famous Stars and Straps will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2009. As business continues to thrive it is no wonder why skateboards, bikers, punk rock, and the youth are just lining up to get their hands on their stuff.
