Brooklyn-based Jimmy Jazz, one of the nation’s leading urban fashion retailer for the past 20 years, formed a strategic alliance to promote Rapper Jim Jones recent album Pray IV Reign. The album which includes tracks produced by Young Seph, No I.D., Ryan Leslie and Triple-A. Jim features special collaborations with Ron Browz, Twista, Lil Wayne, Brittney Taylor, Starr, Rell, Juelz Santana, Mel Matrix, Rowana, Oshy, Ryan Leslie, Chink Santana and Ludacris.
This fourth album from the hip hop artist is one that definitely pushes the limit when it comes to mocking some of the most relevant names in hip hop today. Tracks like “Jackin’ Swagga From Us” shoot direct stabs at superstars like Kanye West and Jay-Z. In an interview with Complex magazine last year, Jones said:
“I think it was deliberate. I really do think it was deliberate; maybe in my sick twisted mind I’m a little crazy. People know who set the precedent as far as fashion in this industry and people know who damn near changed the world as far as fashion. You look at people; they went from the urban world of clothing, back when Rocawear and Sean John was cool. And then in the past 5 years I stepped in and gave them a taste of what rock and roll looks like from my side. I guess people would say from an urban side, and it seemed to catch on like wildfire, to the point that people was going to stores and asking for that Jim Jones look.”
However other than causing controversy in the hip hop world, the rapper is keeping busy with his other project. Other than releasing his latest album, Jones is currently working on an off-Broadway musical titled “Hip Hop Monologues: Inside the Life and Mind of Jim Jones”.
Pray IV Reign was released in March 24th, 2009 and to celebrate, all 29 branches of Jimmy Jazz stores throughout New York City will launch a contest where urban clothing aficionados will be eligible to win an autographed copy of the LP and a limited Pray IV Reign t-shirt.
