Others may have came up with sophisticated names for their brand. But N4E1 is one of a kind and really ‘Not For Everyone’. Living up to its name and reputation, N4E1 specializes in contemporary premium apparel for you, SoJones readers, who demand more than the ordinary. SoJones talks to Stephen Lee, the Creative Director for N4E1.
Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
I am Steve, Creative director of N4E1. N4E1 was Founded by two friends in 2006, Stephen Lee and Michael Leung. We began our quest to create a clothing brand which would reshape the foundation of modern fashion. Capturing the essence of an entirely new breed of individuals, N4E1 was born to cater to those who work hard, play harder, and demand nothing short of the best.
Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Run DMC, etc)
This season is just the beggining of what we consider pushing the limits of reshaping modern fashion. We don’t set inspiration for our seasons, we just keep trying to push the boundaries of meticulous detail work, and functionality. We are heavily influenced by music, because its a perfect example of self expression, and thats what we do with N4E1.. its all about individuality and how you wear it out.
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Yeah of course. We have seen celebs from Drake, Nas, Jay Sean, Sean Paul, to Soulja boy reppin the brand.. We recently opened our first concept shop in Hong Kong, and I think we did a great job as we captured a wide range of the dopest celebs, and media attention.
What has been a surprise fashion hit for you over the last year?
Heroin pants, you know those pants that sag in the crotch.. I think its “trying” a bit to hard.
What apparel trends are you really feeling this year?
I think keeping it simple, and layering up. A clean henley or v-neck with a light cardigan or shawl cardigan is a simple and timeless look.
What fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
All over print, bedazzled up shirts targeting meat heads.
What is/was one of your own most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
I am planning to pick up a Franck Muller watch, so probably that haha.
TuPac or Biggie?
Biggie will always be dope, but im a TUPAC fan forever.
