Maybe one of you readers out there predicted something ridiculous like this would happen in the world of fashion…but why things like this come out of concept and into the streets is beyond me. Fellas, if you thought skinny jeans were bad, peep these:
In the name of all things masculine, no!
Not a kilt, folks; a skirt. It’s rumored that designer Marc Jacobs started this whole idea of men wearing skirts as acceptable, but now the metro-sexual friendly store, H&M, has added skirts to the Men’s 2010 Spring Collection. Men will have the “option” of wearing a skirt specifically made for them; recommendation of a pairing with tights. Also added in the lineup are fringe jackets, tie-dye scarves and harem pants.
One of the more popular instances of a celebrity wearing a skirt and no one really looking twice was Samuel L. Jackson. Also, who remembers Scottish wrestler Roddy Piper? Although traditional kilts don’t count as skirts (so they say).
Whatever you do, don’t look up the skirt, Hulk!
Though this is something I can’t personally consider anytime probably ever, various cultures and men around the world have embraced the skirt- from the dhoti being part of everyday wear on the in India, or the Foustanella from Greece. Still, it’s usually reserved for ceremonial use and as period or traditional costume.
Some fashion designers you might know have supported skirts as well! Jean-Paul Gaultier has produced skirts for men. Is Sean John next to produce skirts? Rocawear? Is anything sacred anymore?!
Suffice it to say, I’m not suprised H&M is “coming out” with this, no pun intended. Reader, would you ever consider wearing something like this? I could see this taking off in some places like Atlanta (one of the gayest cities in the states), L.A., and San Francisco, but are YOU ready for what would be in the cubicle next to you? A skirt-wearing man?
