The guys of Phar-City have been preparing for this moment for awhile now. They put in a lot of hard work over the past few years, dropping numerous mix tapes and street albums, putting in long hours at the studio, and traveling all over the country doing live shows for their fans.
All that work is about to pay off for the group as they prep the release of their long-awaited debut album, The Single Life. We got a chance to check in with the guys to hear their thoughts on the upcoming release.
The group has been doing the mix tape thing for awhile now. What made this the right time to drop the debut album?
Basically, we just wanted to go by a different approach this time around. We did the album, and it basically shows our true focus, whereas the mix tapes were kind of just a broad feel about us, and this album sums everything up pretty much of how we carry ourselves day-to-day in our lives.
We’re all single and stuff, and when you go through that single phase of your life, it’s about women and partying and just enjoying life, which is what we pretty much talked about on the album.
Whose idea was it to make this an album themed on the single life?
I think that’s a good question because no one really came up with the idea. It’s kind of how it just happened. All of our songs kind of follow that pattern. We didn’t even notice it until one day we looked at all the songs we were doing, and, basically, we were doing the single life all along. It was like pieces to a puzzle really.
We like to go out and have fun. We actually just came back from Miami, and Show has family in Vegas so we like to go out there. It’s pretty much just the nightlife. You don’t have a female locking you down, and you don’t have to worry who you have to call or answer to, so you’re pretty much free to do whatever you want.
We basically show the look of being out there and being around beautiful and attractive women and just enjoying it. You know everything that comes along with that.
How has the sound evolved from the mix tape stuff that was released?
As far as like production and even lyrics, every time we put something out, we tend to grow and evolve into different artists. So as far as the sound, it’s just new and fresh. It’s kind of like our own style that over time we’ve just kind of grown and mastered. It’s just a little different, but not too far off from what we’ve been doing.
We stayed true to what we’ve always done, but we make sure that every time we put something out, we make it better. After you do so many of them (mix tapes), you kind of figure out your lane and how you want to put out your music and where you want to go with it.
What is the perfect girl like to the guys in Phar-City?
Somebody that has a good brain on her head, both ways, someone attractive, but also independent and doesn’t really need us around much because you know doing music you get free time when you get free time. Just somebody that’s going to support and really understand what the game is about and how it works with all the traveling and the shows.
