Finally the million-dollar question has been answered! So who will be this season’s American Idol judges? Mariah Carey was first to seal the deal, and then there were talks about Pharrell, Joe Jonas, even Katy Perry. But, no, after being rumored to be taking a “mentoring” position on the show, Randy Jackson landed back in his judging seat just a few days ago. Now it’s official. Pop sensation Nicki Minaj and chart-topping country singer Keith Urban are joining Carey and Jackson at the judging panel.

Minaj is known as the first female solo artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She has sold more than 4 million copies of her single “Super Bass” and more than 1 million copies of her album Pink Friday worldwide. Pink Friday was released in April 2012.

Urban has also hit some high notes in the music industry with his four Grammy Awards and 14 chart-topping hits. He has been named “Male Vocal Artist of the Year” three times and has been dubbed “Entertainer of the Year” by the Country Music Association. His recently-released CD had three consecutive chart-topping singles.

While Mariah Carey accepted an $18 million offer for the year-long job, insiders claim Nicki Minaj is getting $12 million for a one-year deal with the show. Meanwhile, Keith Urban’s salary has not been disclosed.

The new judges have good things to say about American Idol. Urban plans to be an “authentic” judge, but not “cruel.” He said:

“I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia, and I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don’t know that I’ll ever be THAT guy.”

Ryan Seacrest is excited about the new and diverse judging panel for the 12th season of American Idol.

“Last night we had a chance to really get together for the first time as a group. Everybody made a toast and talked about how special it was that they were here, and why they were here. So we’re off to a good start. You can see just by the panel, the kind of power the show has.”

Mark Darnell, Fox President of Alternative Entertainment, said:

“I am thrilled about this year’s judges panel. With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith, and our incomparable host Ryan, we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.”

Will this new panel of judges help the show’s ratings that have been declining for the past few years? Share what you think right here.
