While his candid remark caused a stir in the Big Apple, his foray into lifestyle apparel sent fans into a frenzy in Sin City. Earlier this week, the Grammy Award-winning Weezy debuted his TRUKFIT clothing gear and his SUPRA skateboarding shoe line at MAGIC’s S.L.A.T.E. trade show in Las Vegas.
An arm of the MAGIC Convention, S.L.A.T.E., which stands for Select, Lifestyle, Apparel, Trend, Emergence, spotlights streetwear labels from the underground surf, skate, art, and music communities. Attendees got a full look at the rapper’s streetwear brand, which includes Weezy’s line of caps, tees, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, and fleecewear, among other things.
In addition to getting a little more acquainted with the brand, fans also got to meet Tunechi as he visited the TRUKFIT booth, which featured avant-garde mannequins with 3D video mapping technology that were designed by Pearl Media. Wayne, who was draped in his TRUKFIT line down to the eyewear, was presented with a custom TRUKFIT Beats by Dre headphones and two custom TRUKFIT guitars.
A Sneak Peek at the New Kicks
Aside from showcasing his contemporary streetwear brand, Wayne also debuted his SUPRA Chimera signature sneaker. Freshnessmag.com got a sneak peek of the highly anticipated shoe collection that features “a mid-cut model with a decidedly straightforward aesthetic.”
Despite being courted by other shoe companies, the platinum-selling rapper decided to team up with skateboarding shoe brand SUPRA to launch his own shoe line. The Young Money boss sat down with MTV News to discuss how the collaboration came about. He said:
“I was just rocking them when I was skating and stuff, and when I got real cool with the homey Stevie Williams, it was kinda like a plug from him. He [has] been with SUPRA. He just let them know. Even before I was skating, I was rocking SUPRAs before I even knew what they were. It was just a mutual respect on each end, so it was just bound to happen.”
There is no word on the official release date yet, but rumors suggest the new kicks are expected to land in stores in May 2013.
Rockin’ the Nightlife Scene
Later that evening, Wayne hit the nightlife scene at 1 Oak Nightclub at the Mirage Hotel & Casino for a rare performance and some skateboarding. Special guests included Tyga, Mack Maine, and producer Detail. Together with Weezy, they rocked the stage and performed a few tracks, including “John,” “The Motto,” “Pop That,” and “Rack City.”
To top it off, the rapper-turned-skater built a fully functional skate ramp inside the club, which he used with pro-skateboarder Stevie Williams.
Apparently, Mr. Carter is going all the way with the expansion of his brand empire. Are you getting itchy to get your hands on his TRUKFIT gear and shoe designs? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments!
