G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer Dropping This September

Hear ye! Hear ye! Excited fans of Cruel Summer, you will have to endure a little longer. G.O.O.D. Music recently announced that its compilation project, Cruel Summer, is now set for a September 4 release, instead of the previously scheduled August 7.

Def Jam released an official press release on Monday, July 23. He stated:

As “Mercy” – G.O.O.D. Music’s smash platinum single and lead track from the upcoming Cruel Summer album – reigns at #1 at Urban radio for the fourth consecutive week, Kanye West’s collective drops its next banger, “New God Flow,” which features Kanye and Pusha T and is produced by Kanye. “New God Flow” is currently available at all digital music retailers and services, including kanyewest.com. Cruel Summer is set for a September 4th release on G.O.O.D. Music / Def Jam Recordings.

Cruel Summer features Kanye West’s high-profile, albeit eclectic, assembly of talents, including Big Sean, Common, Cyhi the Prynce, D’Banj, Hit-Boy, John Legend, Kid Cudi, Mos Def, Mr. Hudson, Q-Tip, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, and (unofficially) 2 Chainz.

G.O.O.D. Crew Graces the Complex Mag Cover

From legendary icons to fresh hitmakers, Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Music artists rocked the cover of Complex magazine on its August/September 2012 issue.

Head shots of Kanye, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Common, Big Sean, John Legend, Q-Tip, and 2 Chainz are arranged in the form of a cross with a tagline at the bottom that reads, “In G.O.O.D. We Trust.”

In the “G.O.O.D. Music: New Religion” cover story, seven of the crew—sans Kanye due to his “no press” policy—sat down for a roundtable interview to discuss the project and share their experiences while working under the guidance of coach ‘Ye.

When asked what the project means to them, Pusha T defined it as “limitless,” while Big Sean exclaimed:

Quality—the best. Kanye put himself in a class that nobody can match, as far as evolving, progressing, and taking the best of what we learn and making more out of it. So the brand is just being the coolest. We dress the best; we rap the best; we sing the best; we look the best.

John Legend added:

It starts with the name itself. We want to be known for quality. We want to be known for stuff that we all can be proud of. That creativity, that attention to detail, that quality control, that’s what distinguishes us from other folks who might just be chasing a hit.

Meanwhile, 2 Chainz stated that he is an unofficial member of G.O.O.D. Music and opened up about his unique relationship with West.

I’m not officially signed, paperwork-wise, to G.O.O.D. Music. But I have a great rapport with ‘Ye. I’ve talked to ‘Ye a thousand times about trying to make this situation work for the both of us.

The crew also admired their commander’s intense and creative approach, which is known to be “ruthless pursuit of quality.” Common described him as the first producer he had that would say things like, “Man, change that verse,” or “Nah, that line is weak. Hell, nah.”
