What’s Real with those Housewives of Atlanta?

It was only recently I caught on to the first “docu-drama” on Bravo to ever hit the 2 million viewer mark among adults 18-49, and that would be a show about  the professional and social lives of five women living in the suburbs of Atlanta aka “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, now in its second season.

But it’s not all that simple, reader; because when the claws come out, there’s hardly anything professional about these women; or maybe that’s just how they do it in the ATL!

Season 2’s lineup consists of:

Lennithia “NeNe” Leakes — Rumors circulated that this housewife was evicted from her rental home on Sugarloaf Parkway, 40 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta. NeNe adamantly disputes this on the show. She has two sons and a husband in real estate named Gregg. Leakes (in an attempt to sound remotely honorable for receiving this) won a Bravo A-List Award for “Guiltiest Reality Pleasure” in 2009.

Here’s Nene with the class…

…And here’s NeNe if you cross her ass! Here Kandi and NeNe fight on Ryan Cameron’s radio show:

Sheree Whitfield — From Shaker Heights, Ohio and ex-wife of NFL  player Bob Whitfield. Two kids, plus a daughter from a previous relationship. Had a feud with NeNe Leakes earlier in the show, but the two women have since made up.

Della LaShaun of DirtyPeach TV hosts a two part interview with Sheree to cover love, drama, and…well, just watch!

lisa-wu.jpg
Lisa Wu-Hartwell — Married to former NFL linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, who was recently let go by the Oakland Raiders. Also goes by the names Sharon Millette Wu, Sharon Lisa Sweat, and Lisa Wu-Sweat during her chapter 7 bankruptcy a couple years ago. Ironically, during the beginning of the show, she would always say: “If it doesn’t make me money, I don’t do it.” Hartwell’s father is Chinese, her mother,  African-American.

Here, Lisa spends some time with family…

Kimberleigh “Kim” Zolciak — A divorced mother of two. Wants to be a country singer while trying to quit her smoking habit. She had a sugar daddy named Lee Najjar aka “Big Poppa”, who bought her $14,000 in diamonds and a $60,000 Cadillac Escalade on the show. Zolciak and “Big Poppa” broke up during the conclusion of season one. Since then, Zolciak has hooked up with billionaire Dr. Stefan Lemperle and Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis. Kimerleigh, the only white woman in this cast, got the producers so  impressed with her personality that they let her on, in spite of initially wanting an all black cast. And of course, it probably got the white audience interested in this show as well, let’s be honest.

She definitely has the personality, that’s for sure! The only one who will get a few drinks inside of her and sing karaoke..cause that’s definitely not a typical black thing!

(Or is it?)

and finally…
kandi_burruss_c.jpg
Kandi Burruss —  A Georgia native and former Xscape member, Kandi is the new housewife replacing Deshawn Snow Burruss, has a fiancé and a six-year-old daughter (Riley), and has won a Grammy Award for her work on TLC’s single  “No Scrubs.” She has also written music for artists like Mariah Carey, ‘N Sync, Destiny’s Child, and Whitney Houston.

This is obviously a popular show, so do you watch it, reader? Who’s your favorite housewife? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments!

  1. My favorite housewife is NeNe. I know she has her faults but she is only human. Besides, she speaks her mind, has a good time, laughs, and does her own thing. I also love that she involves all of the housewives despite tiffs, espeially Kim, because she loves Kim’s children, as they do her.
Sheree is also in my heart. First season’s Sheree felt like a bit of a front to me, which I completely understand… why would you want everyone in your business, some things need to remain private

Sheree is also in my heart. First season’s Sheree felt like a bit of a front to me, which I completely understand… why would you want everyone in your business, some things need to remain private, especially when your ex isn’t providing for his children, DISGRACFUL!
I also love Kandi because she doesn’t thrive on the drama or try to insert herself in everyone’s business. You like her, that’s fine, you don’t, she’s not going to work to change your mind.
Kim, love her personality, hate her actions. One alarming statement she made about her, big poppa, and her daughters all sleeping in the same bed, that’s a little creepy to me. It also bothers me that she is hopping between rich men, what example is she really setting for her girls? That being said, the relationship she has with her children is wonderful and for that I can put aside my judgements and say that she must be a good woman. I know all the drama has been horrid but it’s all hear say and you can truly tell the character of a person by the way they treat their family, especially their children.
I love the Real Houswives of ATL but am a bit sad that it now coincides with Project Runway, which is my first true love of reality television… but I make it work.
