[SoJones] Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
[Billy the Artist] Well, my name is Billy the Artist and I live in the East Village and I believe that the Billy brand is about celebrating life. It’s about not taking life too seriously. Having fun. Sharing who you are and taking that energy and good vibe and that celebration and celebrating it with the world. Celebrating it to anyone that wants to party.
[SoJones] Describe Morning Glow and After Dark.
[Billy the Artist] I knew that I was going to be doing 2 watches so I wanted to make the watches a pair. You could wear them individually or you could wear them together. So the idea was to use the iconic images of my artwork. Eyes and faces so the Morning Glow is more of a day watch, very colorful, very bright, very sunny like a very beautiful summer day like today where as when the sun goes down and its nighttime and you want to put on the black and white watch that’s a little more slick. Kind of hip, like you’re going to a club or out to dinner or drinks. So the idea was that you could wear them both at the same time or else you wear one in the day time and one at night.
[SoJones] What celeb or well-known figure(s) that you would associate with each watch?
[Billy the Artist] “I don’t know about associate but ya know if Johnny Depp was wearing one that would be pretty cool. If Jay-Z was wearing the black and white one and Beyonce was wearing the color one that would be pretty cool.”
[SoJones] Looking ahead over the next year or two, what themes/looks/styles do you see your brand gravitating to?
[Billy the Artist] I’ve seen my work and would like to see my work on skateboards, surfboards, and snowboards. I like the energy and vibe that that whole world is about. I see that. I’d like to see my black and white stuff on an entire dress from the black and white watch. I want to get into the fashion and skater lifestyle so to speak.
