It’s not surprising that the producers of the 2009 BET Awards changed the rundown at the last minute to include a tribute to Michael Jackson, who died suddenly last Thursday. Although awards host Jamie Foxx pulled off a very entertaining Jacko performance and dance number, the tribute actually started earlier on the red carpet. The stars came out in droves in various homages to the King of Pop, wearing MJ tees and Jacko’s signature white glove.

And finally, the ultimate tribute of the night, Jamie Foxx with the Thriller jacket, embellished glove and the crotch-grab, the legendary Michael Jackson move.

In other fashion news from the show, SoJones noted a conspicuous absence of “liquid leggings”, which have been done to death over the previous months by too many starlets like singer Keri Hilson. Perhaps a sign that this microtrend is on the way out?
And seemingly as a nod to the times, fewer rappers and celebrities flaunted outrageous jewelry and precious baubles this year, with the exception of T-Pain who seemed very comfortable wearing his diamond and platinum “Big A* Chain”.
Amongst the very well-dressed at the BET Awards was the ever so beautiful Alicia Keys, who donned a Moroccan-inspired embellished tunic dress in sea green, which she elegantly paired with Christian Louboutin sandals.
One celeb fashion disaster of the evening happened to the girlfriend of one of the most fashion-forward stars at the event. Amber Rose, current squeeze of Kanye West, got faced-off by two-time Grammy Awards nominee, Amerie. Both were wearing the same Alexander McQueen dress. In our opinion, both looked fabulous, so it’s entirely up to you on deciding who really rocked it.
