SoJones.com, as you know, is a strong supporter of up and coming streetwear line. This time, we show you, aspiring designers, that it’s never too early to start your own clothing line. Meet Peter Takis, one of the youngest entrepreneur we’ve ever met. Check his label: Local Advancers and get inspired on how he started his line at 13 years of age. Now that he’s 15, let’s see how he’s doing.
Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
My name is Peter Takis, I’m a 15 year old high school student who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I’m the owner of Local Advancers, and independent clothing company spreading an activism message through streetwear. I started working on the Local Advancers “project” back when I was just 13 and a half but just launched on November.6th. So far I’ve seen a shocking response, filled with sales.
Fifteen years old. Do people tell you that you’re too young to start a business? How do you handle these sort of remarks?
I think a lot of people think it with out speaking their voice. With support and love comes hate and jealousy. Luckily I have some seriously awesome friends and family who want to see me grow instead of fail.
Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
Everything is pretty classic. I’m going to be trying to move away from the skulls and snakes and show some maturity with an “Americana” twist coming in December’s big realize.
Every design you see in this line was probably drawn up while listening to Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Jay-Z or Lupe Fiasco so I’d say they where a huge influence as well.
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc) If not yet, do you have any particular celebrities that you wish would wear your clothing line?
Nothing like that just yet, but I would literally do anything to see Kanye rocking one of my tees. He’s so far ahead of the rest with the way he dresses to his lyrics. If he ever wore one of my tees I’d know he seen something special in my brand.
What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
I think snap back caps have made a strong come back. I honestly never even heard of a snap back until about a year ago but now it seems like very brand is doing one ….. maybe even ours, stay tuned!
What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
I hate big bold, all over prints. They were super hot about 2 years ago, but fizzled out. I’m sure it’ll be back, but I wont be rocking that fad any time soon.
What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
I definitely keep my Nick Dunk high x DJ AM kicks as fresh and safe as possible. About a year later and I’ve only worn them on select occasions.
TuPac or Biggie?
