Vanessa Bell Calloway is stepping into the world of celebrity endorsements for the first time. Word has hit the streets that the eight-time Image Award nominee has agreed to become the face of Herbalife, an international company that focuses on nutrition and weight management.

Calloway has been involved with the company for at least four years now, both as a consumer and on the publicity side of things. She is the first person to sign with the company as a celebrity endorser who is not associated with sports. Herbalife plans to use her name and image for promotional campaigns in African-American markets.

Previous Herbalife events that she took part in include the KJLH Women’s Health Forum and Union Rescue Mission community events. She has expressed support for the product based on her own experiences with it:

“Herbalife became my daily morning routine because the shake along with my daily supplements not only helps me maintain my weight, but they supply energy for me throughout my day. Even when I travel, I pack my Herbalife products.”

The main focus of the current campaign that will feature Calloway is to present the company as a solution for specific obesity and financial issues that plague African-American groups in general.

Calloway’s most recent acting appearance was in The Obama Effect, a movie about a 50-something insurance broker who gets overly caught up in Obama’s presidential election campaign. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 13th. Two more Calloway movies are also due to be released this year, A Beautiful Soul and Hollaback (still in post-production).

For those who want to see some Calloway now, The Last Fall came out on June 21st. The busy actress even appeared in episodes of Ringer and Shameless this year, in addition to playing Deaconess Carter in The Under Shepherd, which took home three Grand Jury Prizes.

The details of the Herbalife deal are still being kept under wraps, but it is impressive that Calloway has the time to get involved in the company’s campaign in the midst of her busy schedule. Although the company claims that it does not rely on celebrity endorsements for sales, it has signed on other big names, including soccer player Lionel Messi, badminton star Saina Nehwal, squash champion Dipika Pallikal, and many others.

The list is quite extensive, and it would be hard to deny that Herbalife has had a long relationship with celebrities. Calloway is just the latest addition to this crowd.
