SoJones always loves the underdog, and in this case J. Cole was exactly that. Once standing outside of Jay-Z’s place of business for three hours just to give him a beat he made, J. Cole was shunned by the Jigga-man. That didn’t stop J. Cole (real name Jermaine Lamarr Cole), and now he is the first artist signed to Roc Nation. With unique punchlines and the ability to seamlessly sing, produce, and rap his own music, J. Cole stands to the chance to soon be one of the greatest musicians in rap history. And it doesn’t hurt at all to be on Jay-Z’s team while this is all taking place.
His expertise as a producer should be noted as well, as most rappers aren’t handling the production side of their albums. J. Cole already has 3 great mixtapes he’s released, all following a sports theme, with everything leading up to the ‘big game’ which is his debut album. Check out an awesome interview Nardwuar hosted with J. Cole, you’ll learn a lot since Nardwuar (who’s been interviewing musicians for over 15 years now) does his homework intensively when asking questions. Did you know there are Outkast dolls out there? Get your Andre 3000 & Big Boi fix as many ways as possible, they might have another album out next year.
Lastly, in this interview with Femme Fatale, J. Cole shares how collabs with him, Wale, and Trey Songz came about, as well as his trip to Barbados to film his latest video. Is it just us, or are lots of artists hitting that beautiful place up nowadays?! SoJones needs a vacation..Also he’s in debt to Sallie Mae for defaulted loans, just like we and a lot of our peers are! (check out our article on celebs with money issues.)
His debut album comes out September 27th (save the date), and below are the tour dates. Enjoy the show, and SoJones wishes J.Cole safe travels with his world tour! (Read about Roc Nation’s lawsuit with Volcom.)
