Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
Greetings, I’m Mamayashi and my brand is Mamayashi Collection. Making clothes have been a hobby since childhood. I’ve always been adventurous with my clothing and I liked creating a new piece of clothing to wear that very same day. As a stay-at-home mom, I started to share pictures of my designs online. The response and was great! Women see my brand as an evolution in cultural wear..stylish and conscious, handmade one-of-a-kind clothing for today’s society. The years over the steady support of customers has grown mamayashi collection into an internationally known and loved brand.

Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
Rastafari inspires my life and my line by natural creativity and growth.
Rooted in africa, mamayashi collection keeps it fresh every season… New items are frequently added to the collection.

Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Reggae gives Mamayashi collection lots of love. Look out for more
sightings in music videos and special appearances by stars like Queen
Ifrica, Etana, Alaine, Una Morgan and others!

What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
I dont know if i’m surprised or just really glad that so much people love
zippers as much as I do!!

What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
Skull and bones, and other negative symbols. I’m tired of seeing it, especially on children. We need to make better choices about the energy that we contribute to the world.

What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
I try not to get too attached to material things 🙂 but I especially love
a ruffled twill bag I made a few years ago, with a hand drawn picture of
empress menen layered on it.

Tupac or Biggie?
If I had to choose music.. I’d say Tupac..love that song ‘Changes’.

You can get Mamayashi’s designs at the brand’s website: www.mamayashi.com.  Prices range from $20 – $60, a great bargain for handmade designs.
