Looks like Pharrell isn’t the only one implementing his clothing line aesthetics into motorbikes, and we smell a new trend coming up. Rapper T.I. unveiled the customized Yamaha YZF-R1 at the Magic Tradeshow in Las Vegas last week. The motorbike was the result of the collaboration between custom sportbike designer and builder, Rob Uecker, from Voodoo Industries and T.I.’s AKOO Clothing design team.
Turns out that AKOO Clothing line has appealed not only to the hip hop audience, but also to the automotive lovers. Rob Uecker stated:
“What makes this Yamaha R1 so unique is the unusual mixture of textures and materials. When I look at the AKOO brand I see classic, rugged American styling. But I know T.I. is a serious rider, so it was important to me to accentuate the R1’s aggressive street stature. I worked closely with the AKOO design team to translate those aesthetics onto the Yamaha canvas, and the result is the best sportbike I have ever built.”
The bike is officially dubbed “AKOO YZF-R1” brings AKOO’s masculine style into Yamaha’s rugged yet modern street-king look. Ralph Reynolds, AKOO Principal, stated:
“Rob Uecker creates custom inspired creations, each one better than the last. The AKOO Yamaha R1 is truly one of these inspired creations. From a design, power, and style perspective the combining of our two different brands, VooDoo Industries’ magic has brought about truly inspired beauty. Rob being the artist, the Yamaha R1 being the medium, and AKOO being the inspiration, we are fortunate and extremely appreciative to have been involved with this project.”
The bike is retailed for a cool $80,000. But somehow we have a hunch it’s going to end up in T.I.’s garage as one of his boy toys. The rapper seemed to enjoy his time on it, and we can see why. It puts the new cool in rides.
