Purchased by Jay-Z in 2007 for $15 million, Artful Dodger has become one of the main choices for streetwear lovers when it comes to personal style. And now, SoJones would like to call out to Utah high school alums, because their letterman jackets manufacturer has just been chosen by Jay-Z to produce a collection of varsity jacket for Artful Dodger. So Utah alums, check your old letterman jackets and see the label: if you see ‘Coleman Knitting Mills’ label, you’ve become a part of streetwear history!
The Coleman Knitting Millis in Ogden, was founded in 1947 by William C. Coleman and is now operated by grandson, Richard. So a rep from Artful Dodger -post Jay-Z’s purchase- tracked down an old letter jacket from the 70’s to the original shop in Ogden, and ordered a batch for the label. Although the Coleman Knitting Mills owner, Richard, never heard of Jay-Z before, he’s pretty familiar with the mogul’s wife: Beyonce.
Although created for Artful Dodger, the Coleman jackets will still bear Coleman’s label to show that the jackets are clearly US-made. Jay-Z’s ethics to ensure that the production of his line is done entirely in the USA is surely admirable. The rep also said to order only 88 jackets for Artful Dodger, and each will retail for $400. There’s no other details on whether Jay-Z will make another order or make this batch limited edition, but we know one thing: Artful Dodger is stylish. And speaking of style, here are our editors’ favorites from Artful Dodger available on DrJays and they’re all for SALE:
