SoJones loves introducing new brands that can add fly points to your swagger. This time our spotlight hits Rag Dynasty, a cntemporary young men’s premium clothing brand. The brand is known for its printed, embroidered and embellished graphics heavily inspired by fashion, music, art and culture of past world dynasties. Top Iyoha from Rag Dynasty lets you get to know the brand better.
Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
My name is Top Iyoha and I represent Rag D. The brand started out of the idea that fashion for young men can get to the next level in mixing style, fit, price and wearability without sacrificing quality and creativity.
Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration
For our spring/summer 2010 the aim was to create a wide variety of vintage looking fabrics in plaids, stripes and textures on non traditional bodies like metal rings on plaids, utilizing patches and badges from days of old. Our western shirts for example feature embroideries inspired by the Buffalo Soldier on one hand, while our stripes and textures basically utilizes artwork inspired by some vintage dynastic asian letters, sculptures etc…(examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
We are not very big on dropping names of celebs. Rag dynasty is no ego clothing. Everyone that wears our shirts is a celebrity in their own minds. They are prophets with honor especially in their own world.
What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
Is there anymore surprises in fashion these days?
What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
I say throw nothing out. Bring them on. All of them. I am of the mind that the more the merrier.
What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
The whole line of Rag Dynasty sawtooth western with the back yoke color on color embroidery. The collection of plaid colors is awesome. I want one in every print.
TuPac or Biggie?
Why can’t we all just get along?
