Throwbacks are the coming to the future and we can’t stop enjoying retro brands re-entering the streetwear scene. Some of them never really left, but marked their ‘comeback’ with significant upgrade in the first decade of the millennium. Take Vision Street Wear, which has been a super-player in the industry since 1976. They’re giving you, SoJones readers, a taste of their upgraded classic collections this year. Check what Vision Street Wear is all about right here:
Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
Hi, we are the Vision Street Wear team! Our iconic street wear company started back in 1976 and began a takeover of the street wear industry. Vision Street Wear is recognized as one of the original and most authentic street wear brands to emerge from the skateboarding fashion explosion of the early 90’s. Vision Street Wear made a huge impact in the fashion world with unique and bold designs. We had some of the greatest riders wearing Vision Street Wear like Christian Hosoi, Tony Hawk and Jason Lee. Not to mention legendary rockers like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. A mix of fashion and performance is what set Vision Street Wear apart and why the brand has continued.
Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
For our debut line in Fall of 2009, we really concentrated on bringing the classics back to life. Styles like the Suede Hi, the Santiago, the East 20th- were all throwbacks to the early days of Vision Street Wear. Vision Street Wear brought back that unique twist on skate shoes and also updated the performance necessary to become a sought after skate shoe once again. For Fall 2010, we will be adding a clothing line as well as new shoes- think bright colors and styles easily worn on a skate deck or out on the town. Stay tuned for Fall 2010, the collection is going to be unreal!
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for? (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Adrian Greneier is a fan along with Pink and Fred Savage! We are keeping our eyes out for pictures!
What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
The trend that has really come back is that old school classic style and we are surprised it has been lasting so long but we are loving it!
What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
We are actually enjoying everything in fashion right now, especially the bright colors and the huge 80’s influence. It makes us feel a bit nostalgic. We feel like anything goes in fashion right now.
What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
Favorite fashion piece… that is a hard one! I would say we love our Suede Hi sneakers. They are an updated take on a classic and were made in celebration of the Vision Street Wear re-launch in 2009. Under 100 or so have been made worldwide so we really treasure them. These shoes are like a piece of Vision Street Wear history.
TuPac or Biggie?
Biggie. Only because he hypnotizes me. Classic song.
Are you a returning fan of Vision Street Wear? Or did you just get acquainted? Either way, you’d love their shoes and here’s a sneak peek on what’s coming for Fall 2010. For the full collection, check www.visionstreetwear.com
