“Think Like a Man” Remains at #1, but “The Avengers” is Coming Soon

For the second week in a row, the ensemble cast of Think Like a Man has the distinction of having the number-one movie in America. The comedy, based off of the Steve Harvey best-seller, brought in another $18 million this past week to bring its total to a very impressive and totally unexpected $60.9 million in only two weeks. The Sony Screen Gems film outpaced all other films decisively and won the top position by a wide margin.

At #2 was the animated children’s comedy The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The film, which features the voice talents of Hugh Grant, Jeremy Piven, and Salma Hayek, managed to narrowly take second place this weekend by bringing in $11.4 million. The film that it just edged out was The Lucky One. The Zac Efron romance took in $11.3 million to fall to the #3 spot.

At #4 is a very familiar face with The Hunger Games. Although it fell outside of the top 3 for the first time since its release, it still brought in an impressive $11.2 million.

The fifth spot belongs to the Jason Segal and Emily Blunt romantic comedy The Five-Year Engagement. The movie about a couple’s long struggle to make it to the altar brought in $11.1 million to round out the top 5.

This upcoming weekend will be a huge one for the film industry as the highly touted and highly praised superhero blockbuster The Avengers makes it way to US audiences. The film was recently released overseas and brought in a whopping $178.4 million, so expect it to challenge some records here in the states.
